Disaster SNAP: Real Help for an Estimated 30,000 Victims of Sandy

Apply for your D-SNAP benefits if you:

1. Lived in one of the following full or partial zip codes on October 27:

  • All of 11224 and 11235 in Coney Island
  • All of 11231 in Red Hook
  • The part of 11229 in Gerritsen Beach south of Allen Avenue
  • All of 11691, 11692, 11693, 11694 and 11697 in the Rockaways
  • All of 10306 on the southeastern shore of SI
  • The part of 10305 south of Seaview Avenue
  • All of 10002 on the Lower East Side

PLEASE NOTE: Only those living in these areas on October 27 are eligible for D-SNAP.

2. Are not receiving regular SNAP benefits*

3. Had disaster-related expenses between October 27 and November 25 including, but not limited to, damaged home or car, hotel/motel expenses, etc. (spoiled/lost food, however, does not qualify)

What is Disaster SNAP (D-SNAP)?

D-SNAP is a one-time payment for food purchases.

Who can get D-SNAP?

Nearly anyone who meets the requirements above, including students, all immigrant populations, those sanctioned by regular SNAP and others

How do I get D-SNAP benefits?

If you meet the requirements above, either you or your representative must bring proof of your identification along with any proof you have of your residence, family composition and resources from October 27 to November 25 to apply in person at:

*What if I receive regular SNAP benefits?

Do not apply for D-SNAP. If you get less than the max SNAP allotment for your household’s size, you will automatically be given it for November. If you already get the max, you will not receive any increase or further benefit.
